Mary Ann Chase
Mary Ann Chase was born in Boston and lived in Hingham until her family moved to Randolph, Vt., when she was eight. She was very active in high school, but also found time to volunteer as a hospital candy striper and then as a nurse's aide.
Mary Ann graduated from the University of New Hampshire, majoring in Occupational Therapy. She married David Chase, then training as an army helicopter pilot, finished her internship, and took her American Medical Examination at Texas Women's College close to where David was stationed. She worked in several hospitals while she and David moved from post to post.
Returning to Massachusetts, Mary Ann worked for 25 years as the director of occupational therapy in the Quincy Public School System.
Mary Ann's involvement with Dana-Farber was a direct result of her long friendship with Jane May and Carol Russell. Carol introduced her to Lillian Bachman, Dana-Farber's Volunteer Coordinator at the time, resulting in Mary Ann's becoming a volunteer in the Jimmy Fund Clinic for several years. After a hiatus, when a temporary "fill in" role resulted in seven more years of work, she retired for a second time and began her association with the Friends' Corner Gift Shop and the Friends' Board. She currently serves as recording secretary.
Mary Ann is past president of the South Shore American Association of University Women and The Hingham Woman's Club. She is a member of the Development Committee of Wellspring, a multi-service center serving the Towns of Hingham, Hull and Cohasset. She and David have four children and seven grandchildren.
Mary Ann said, "This is my first year as a full member of the Board, and I find it to be an amazing group of women. The dedication and commitment of the already busy mothers, grandmothers, volunteers and employed to raising funds to further the mission of Dana-Farber is so impressive. Each success encourages us all to do more."
