Adults and children who are patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Children's Hospital, or patients of Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, may use the center and its satellite resource rooms. Their families and friends are also welcome. As a National Cancer Institute site, Dana-Farber provides information to people throughout the world.

The Blum Information Resource Center

May I borrow materials from the center?

Yes. Most books, videotapes, and audiotapes can be borrowed.

Will someone be available to help me find information?

Yes. Resource center staff members include a patient/family-education nurse specialist, as well as volunteers, some of whom are former patients. Visitors to the center and its satellite rooms often appreciate speaking with people who have experienced cancer themselves. Staff can help you find what you need, talk with you, or help you become an active participant in your care or your child's care.

I'm not comfortable using a computer. Can I still get the information I need?

Yes. There are several ways to learn at the center. If you need help using a computer, a staff member is always available to assist with computer searches or access to cancer databases and Web sites. Also, the computers have easy instructions for beginners, so you can browse on your own.

Does the center carry information about community resources and other services?

Yes. We have information on hospitality/housing services, support groups, hospice care, and other programs for cancer patients and their families. The staff can connect you directly with available support networks, including One to One: The Cancer Connection.
